Do my wife & I have to invalidate our safety helmet warranties by fitting silly reflective stickers to them to drive through France in order to avoid a fine?

No. It's one those that they might add on to your tally of fines once you're stopped, if they're in a bad mood, but they won't stop you for that alone.

You could always tell les flics that they were there when you left, but the vibration caused by speed in England must have shaken them off.

If they was in the mood then they'd still nick you as the rule says they mustn't be removable.

I've never bothered.
