My ( very ) old Kindle is reaching the end of its life.. The screen is starting to go and from later this year it will no longer be supported by Amazon
Only interested in paper white models ( got a Fire and battery life has always been at best pathetic )
Has anyone got experience of an issue 10 or 11 ?
Battery life is important and possibly, later on, the ability to use audio books

My Mrs has had a kindle for the best part of 10 years (or since they first came out) and now has a gen 11 Fire HD 10+ which she has had for about 6 months having previously had something like a Gen 8 Fire.

What she has told me is firstly don't bother with the higher spec 10+ . Her mother has the same more basic model and it does everything that the higher spec model does at less cost. The only real advantage is that she can use the docking port which you cannot do on the basic machine.

The Fire range has brilliant battery life for the first 12 months (depending on use) but will go off the boil hence the reason she is one of those that keeps it plugged in most of the time, and there are a number of apps that are not compatible compared to other devices. For example on the + you do not get free security, and you do not get the free printing app which you do get on the more basic machine.

Oh, and you cannot turn off some of the poxy adverts they keep posting up and you sudden;y get blasted by crap music and an ad yo\u don't want and there is no way of turning it off unless you pay for it

She can download audio books, music, in fact she does everything on her fire that she used to do on a laptop (she paid out for the security and printing app) and she lives on it for probably 15 hours out of every 24 so probably gives it 10 years use in about 3, so as you can probably guess, she likes it.

Hope that is of some help John.

Anything else you want to know, I can get an answer for you (y)

The best I have had out of the Fire's battery is a week... that was the third they sent me.. I gave up with it and went back to my 2nd gen paperwhite
I only use the Kindle when I go to bed and read for about 1/2 hour..
The paper white lasts an average of three weeks between charges
No idea. But I use Kindle on my iPad have you got one?

Got two.. Too big and bulky mate.. When I am gonna go somewhere that I KNOW will involve a bit of waiting I can slip the Kindle in my pocket

Just picked a bit of info up that may be useful to you Tony:

The colour and storage size I wanted only came with ads and was therefore £10 cheaper so I contacted Amazon and asked them to remove them as it was slowing it down and they did this free of charge.

One of the things I learned recently is how much battery going to a ‘low power mode’ on the display saves. My iPad display now has a black background rather than the white stock setting……while battery life was not a problem before I am only charging every other day now compared to daily before. Also good to run the battery down rather than constantly topping up.

I don't know anything about 'I's' but I recently bough a Samsung tablet that was available in two types, standard and retail.
After looking into it, only the standard was available in the shops as the retail version was intended to be used within the retail environment by the retail employees. Consequently, everything was better, storage, ram and I'm anticipating battery.
I bought the retail.

Do 'I' not do anything similar?
