Hot tub = Leccy Bill =
Codbasher - we did warn you that whatever it is they tell you, it's a fib cos you will use more.
Still we have saved loads on chemicals and water this year, with getting the chlorine from a swimming pool place instead of a spa place, this is going to sound disgusting but our water was last changed in April; we shock-dosed it before we went on hols in August and turned the whole thing off confidently expecting it to be bright green and smelly when we came back. No! - it just smelled of chlorine and was as clear as a bell and we haven't changed it yet. (This is very helpful as our water IS metered)
I think 95% of it is being obsessive about cleaning the filter and the other 5% is keeping the grandkids out of it because whatever you say, they trail across the garden without their shoes on and gaily leap back in with whatever happens to have stuck to their feet, then proceed to displace several gallons of water every 5 minutes. We haven't banned them now, you understand - our daughter & son-in-law invested in their own tub, so it's just that ours is not now the novelty it once was!
I am keeping fairly quiet on the water bill, our annual reading is due any time now, the last one was taken just after the tub was first filled so they based the year on that useage, so we have paid a lot this year (?14-odd a month), which we expect (hope!) will now reduce. My friend at work has three adults at home taking daily showers/baths, a washing m/c but no dishwasher, and pays about ?110 a year. Prior to metering we each paid about the same water rates, around ?200 a year!! - so it's still cheaper anyway.
