Kappa top box latch issue

Dulux

Landscapers do it outside
Just wondering if anyone had any issues with givi/kappa boxes.
I went to take my top box off the other day, probably been on for 6 months, the red button release was really stiff to push in, and then once off wouldn't return, so sprayed loads of lube over the catch and got it moving in and out, but seems to of lost its spring return, do they all go like this, if the springs need replaceing can you actually remove that assembly?

Not had any problems with either box or panniers....

but then I do cleam/lube the mechanisms regularly.

I was thinking of taking it in to work and pressure washing out the release, then a good lube up, it just always used to return, at the moment it needs assistance to return.

It'll probably just be corroded.

If it is one that can be dismantled from the inside, then you can really clean it up and treat it.

You can also buy many of the givi boxes so you may be able to replce the corroded bits.

Have a search on line for givi parts and you should find somewhere that does them.

RolfieDave pointed me at "DK" motors for Givi parts, although neither he nor I recomend them for anything else,:dunno: all the givi stuff, locks etc is replacable,:-0)

Come on you Hatters
My old Maxia did the same after I lent it to a mate over a couple of winters. He left it on the rack permanently all year round, and basically the mechanism filled up with grit.

It's not corrosion, at least on mine it wasn't, as there was no metal parts other than the spring. Seem to recall it all came apart easy enough, I just cleaned mine up and although it's not as free as it should be, it works fine now. I now use that one on my GS.

I'd take it apart rather than try and wash it out whilst working the knob in and out (ooh er!), the grit scratches the plastic on the button and in the recess which is why mine is still a bit stiff as you just can't get the recess smooth again.

Stripped it down over lunch, cleaned it all up, although was mostly lube, next to no grit, still stiff as, so out came the file......job done, red release works a treat, unsure if something had got a bit out of shape, it all looks okay.
