What an awsome weekend it was at the Live8 gig in Hyde park....

I have never been amongst so many people before, and those who know me will know that I am not good in large gatherings (tend to get very emotional, and nervous)

Total respect for the admin team for putting it all together at such short notice....

The acts were brilliant... The crowd wonderful... Such a good hearted & good humoured day I havent experienced in a long long time....

Jan & I have had 8 phonecalls today saying they saw us/me boppin away to UB40.... and that I had a smile a mile wide on my face....

We made a lot of new friends yesterday, some of which have rung us today to make sure we got home OK, which is a lovely thought, as we had never met before yesterday lunchtime...

If I may say a word of thanks to Reefer... When he found we were still in the park & the tube trains were clocing down, he offered to come into central London, pick us up & take us back to our hotel.... Luckily, we made the very last tube train of the night, and didnt need to call on him... But, thanks for offering mate... We really appreciated the offer...

When they brought out Bill Gates, you could have knocked me down with a feather......I just wish that Kofi Anan(spelling !!) could have been a bit more vocal in his thoughts, but I suppose thats politics....

Hope those of you who watched it on the telly enjoyed it half as much as we did....

I know the more cynical of you will say... What the feck was that all about, but it did bring a lot of attention to the problems of third world debt... As Sir Bob said... "We cant fix everything, but we can at least try to put some things right"!!!

I would also like to thank Jan for getting me through the travelling on the undergound...:k .....It really scares the shit out of me....and I am not joking either... I shake like a feckin jelly at the thought of going on the tube....

Right, rant over... Badger is coming over now to collect Aj's cans, and bring Trophychaps rack over form Big Kevs...

See yawl soon,

a very knackered Rolfy

Glad you had a good one Rolfy!

We had a good ol' drink and watched it all on a wide screen tv - great!! And when the Floyd came on I was just about choked right up!! (very envious of you being there for that!!!!) Fantastic to see 'em play together again.

David Gilmour said on the tv this morning....... "was really strange to be playing with Roger after all this time, - bit like sleeping with the ex wife again!!"

Will it spur into one more tour??? We can but live in hope.

Fantastic to watch it on tv though...
Guilmore's performance was unforgettable, far better than expected.

Also....

I gather the BBC producer cut to the drummer when Townsend was doing his windmilling:eek: What timing... The crowd went feckin wild (oops!... sorry, not allowed to swear, its befopre the watershed...LOL)

And Madge didnt have far to walk home as her flat in London is right across from Hyde Park:rolleyes: Wonder if the kids were watchin mum "perform" from the balcony or were back stage ???

And please dont have a go at Reefer, I dont think it was meant nastily.... Just a bit of "banter", as some on this forum would say...:k

Cheers all,

Rolfy

I was in the park too with 'OnScreen' tickets which allowed access to the south side of the Serpentine. Location was brilliant, view of the giant screens was brilliant, the line up was brilliant, but the sound..................was utter shite! I mean it, it was piss poor.

They had massive PA systems surrounding each screen, columns of speakers suspended by cranes and yet I've heard better sound at my stepson's school fete. I can only think that they didn't have time to test it.

When Jonathan Ross was on the volume was brilliant and the sound crystal clear. It was also like this when they took feeds from Berlin, The Eden Project etc............yet as Macca and U2 opened I couldn't hear a word! At first I thought it was a glitch and the techies would sort it, but as the day went on it got worse and worse. People were booing. The levels kept changing and you seemed to either have all treble and no mid range or bass, or just a load of booming bass and no guitars or vocals.

It sounded fine on acoustic numbers, but as soon as there was a bass drum, guitar and vocals it just washed out and sounded like it was underwater. We sat there for four hours and not one person was up and dancing, you couldn't, just as you got into it the sound dissapeared - oh and did I mention over a second's delay between the screen and the 'sound' (if you could call it that!)

We cut our losses juat before 6 and jumped on the train home. We got in just as Madonna took to the stage so we cranked up the amp and had a much better time sat on the sofa!

Velvet Revolver were fookin ace........REM looked good but I couldn't hear them, the Oooooo still av it, and Floyd were impeccable although they didn't look like they enjoyed being there.......... but the best thing I saw all day was the Kaiser Chiefs in the States
