We have progressed a bit in getting a diagnosis for Joe, Emma attended a specialist meeting along with Joe, last week, they have agreed that Joe is definitely showing signs but they want to observe him in class, no problem with that but Emma also has to complete an online course (box ticking exercise) she also has to attend a “behaviour management” course in Leeds once a week for fourteen weeks, she has three young children & works part time, luckily she has us to help her out but how would others go on? She has to attend this course or lose the help.

Sadly, you have to leave your common sense and logic at home when dealing with anyone in the social services departments, just smile and nod in the right places and keep biting your lip.

It’s a behaviour management course, basically to assess whether there is something wrong with Joe or if it’s down to bad parenting

Sounds like they are getting her to do their job for them. as you know my lad is autistic, and I can't recall ever being made to attend any course in order to get help. there were some we attended that were our choice but none we had to. Some were really useful, others a complete waste of time. It would seem where you live has more to do with it than the child's needs.
Progress may be slow, but believe me, once the diagnosis is made the help will follow .
