What the ? It's Not Our Problem

Still kickin' it!
We’re fairly frequent travellers to Europe, but we didn’t have anything planned because Coronavirus arrived in January didn't it? So we took immediate steps to protect ourselves (you listening, Boris?). We cancelled the lot.

Just got this from our travel insurance people. It says “We looked at our records and thought you might have booked a holiday. Everything’s been cancelled, but it’s not our fault, because they (FCO) changed the rules, so don’t call if you have booked a holiday that’s been cancelled because it’s nothing to do with us; we’re only an insurance company.

We'll be looking very closely at T's & C's in future!

And there is your problem I am afraid.. YOU cancelled it.. If the travel firm had cancelled it ( which they would have had to do ) you would be ok... I suspect you are gonna struggle mate

Ohhhhh, no John, no John, no John, no-o-o-o! (Did you sing that one at school? We did!)

If we hadn't cancelled we would have lost our dosh. The insurance company didn't know we'd cancelled - they just knew that we would normally be travelling in Europe about this time - as per their records (more surveillance!). The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advised against travel. That was the "out" for the insurance bods. Read it again, mate - but no need to weep!
:p

Even worse off are those folks you were abroad when they're flight (etc) was cancelled and accepted a refund/voucher/credit from the airline.

They're now on their own getting home!

DA was possibly right to canx anything booked but not fully paid for.

Some organisations have collected the full payments. They say the service (holiday cottage etc) is available, it's not they're fault you can't get to it.
