Meggy, my pedigree farmyard Blue Merle Border Collie cost me £50 reduced from £60 as me and a mate each bought one from a litter and got 2 for £100, that was 15 years ago
Our pedigree Staffie was a rescue and came with pedigree papers, grandad was a champion at Crufts, that was just over 20 years ago.
miss Molly here is pedigree Chocolate Labrador and was £900 4 years ago. A previous pedigree Choccy Lab was around £1000 10 years ago

Those prices, for mixed breed ie mongrels is stupid crazy, and it’s not as if they’re a proper dog either, more like a rat on a rope.

And people wonder why there are so many dog thefts.

Nothing wrong with a mongrel if its trained right especially if its intended as a pet, I have never ever paid for a dog above its feed for a few weeks while being weaned & its injections & I wont because it supports dodgy breeders

Working dogs need a little help along the way through breeding ie its a waste of time having a gun dog who's instincts tell him to avoid water or is scared of loud noises, having said that proper training can help & the best gun dog I know by far is a cross breed off a well bred but not pure lab with a mongrel of 57 varieties, her pups are now shaping up to be even better

All my dogs have come from rescue centres, with a £50 contribution.

I refuse to pay breeders silly prices when there's many dogs 'thrown out' because they no longer fit the lifestyle of someone shallow and... well, I won't go on about what I think. I know there are some instances where it's unavoidable, but the majority of dogs found in rescue centres are there because the owners believe pets are disposable.

We have always had rescue dogs.... every one was a diamond mutt... the wippet lurcher took some time to settle ( being locked in a flat and beaten reguarly really f#cked her up ).
Our current rescue is a huge choc lab who is so placid and calm I wonder if he is on drugs sometimes. Nothing fazes him.
He came after a donation of 300 quid to lab rescue... more than we have ever given but I would gladly give more as he is such a great dog.
Anyone who pays £ 1000+ for a designer cross breed needs to check their moral compass... they are just feeding a breeders greed.

Both our Labs came from working stock bred by local gamekeepers who were badgered into breeding their bitches by the attendees of the local small shoots, both dogs were found by word of mouth mainly through my contacts in the shooting trade and on both occasions they insisted on interviewing you to see if they deemed you suitable and what life you could offer the pup, money was the least of the considerations and £150.00 being the top price payed, grilled by a guy who put the pup above money was such a breath of fresh air compared with some commercial breeders.
Both guys remained friends for years and would always enquire about the dogs whenever we met at shoots and never turned up a chance to make a fuss of them.

Totally agree, last 2 dogs been rescue dogs . When there is so many needing a home's. Sometimes wonder who is being rescued tho, I think we are the ones that probably benefit the most.

In the majority of circumstances, rescue pups make the best dogs. You've rescued them, they know it and they're eternally grateful.
