Hi,
Bset of luck getting ferry tickets for 2013 very limited availability now unless you book a package with accomadation thrown in. The tickets have been reserved deposits paid , payment will be required i full by Feb 2013? at which stage the unpaid for tickets get re releaased but you need to be quick and monito the steam packet booking web site for info.. they go quick.
As for where to stay you need to stay on the outside of the course to give the option of moving between races as the main circuit remains closed. There are some great campsites on the course bed breakfast , properties to rent or a scheme called Homestay. Homestay is great if you want to get to know the local haunts, history etc, families open there houses to bikers on a bed breakfast arrangement fo ?30 -35 ish per person per night. We stayed with a family in 2002 and have revisted time and time again, lovely people now extended family... keen to make sure you have a great time.
Good luck hope above assists.
once you have been you will get the bug and return is guaranteed.

I'm also interested in doing this. assuming too late for 2013, how early do you need to plan / get booked for 2014?

Hi the only ferry to the island is provided by, http://www.steam-packet.com/.The tickets are generally released sometime around the Monday of practise week for the following year and its a mad rush to get good crossing times. You basically reserve a ticket with a ?30 non returnable deposit, the cost of the ticket often hasn't been released at this stage. The full cost of the ticket becomes payable at a date in February when the unpaid tickets are released for resale.

The accommodation is also pre-bookable and the TT IOM FORUM http://www.iomtt.com/TT-2013.aspx provides a great source for you to start looking on.

We are going on our second TT adventure, this time with the other halves. You have to book at least 12 months in advance to guarantee a place. Can recommend Regency Travel. Warning- it's not cheap. Camping is the cheapest option, a big camp site near Douglas. Douglas is the best place to stay. Ramsey is lovely but shuts at 6pm! It's a bikers paradise!
