Same way as all big multi-nationals get away with stuff.... money. Politicians in their pockets.
The world is entering a dystopian nightmare phase where big companies are now as powerful and influencial as many governments. Scary.

Isn't it "amazing" that VW had to pay compensation in the USA but not in the EU! I can't imagine why.
