Is Speeding Right or Wrong

Given that so many peeps in the UK speed (add how many to those that get caught?, maybe x10?) is the message in there that regardless of what the govt/experts say generally the population does not support the current speed limit regime??

I can't think of any other law which is broken with such regularity by such a large part of the population.

Motorway speed limit should be upped at certain times of day.

Speed limit outside schools etc should be 20mph with cameras.

Speeding in built up areas is a no no.

National speed limit areas, fair game.

BUT there should be more police on the roads to look out for those road users under the influence etc etc...

15-20 Mph around schools / hospitals etc
30-40 Mph around town / built up areas
80 Mph Dual carriageways
100-120 Mph on motorways reducing near intersections

Maybe the upper limit could be dependent on age/experience/advanced riding / driving qualifications ?

in sydney speed limits go from 40kph outside schools to 20kph when it's opening or closing... and it's double points if you caught at those hours.

spain have just introduced a scheme rewarding good drivers.

speeding itself doesnt kill, all it does is cut down youre reaction time, i admit i speed a lot, but, not in built-up areas, if i can see way down the road and its clear/safe enough i open the throttle

certain times in the day should be given leeway, late night early morning, i used to finish work at 2am and the motorway used to have at most 3 vehicles in view, speeds were topped out, slowd for junctions and passin others

the problem is that static speed cameras cannot judge wether youre riding/driving in a safe manor, the lack of police is obvious with the amount of careless/dangerous driving thats getting worse, from both bikers and other drivers, ive seen more new bikers especially on peds that are polishing the bumpers of the cars in front coz theyre that close

ive been caught by police a few years ago doin 7mph over the 50mph posted, they said everything looked ok then gave me a warning and sent me on

the answer to speeding is plan ahead and drive within yourself, keep it down in built up areas and just be safe
if youre a nutter with speed everywhere and taking to many risks then you deserve to get caught
i`m probably wrong but that pretty much how i see it

For once we agree although speed vs experience would be difficult to administer and number of years on the road means bugger all i.e. Old Timer aged 179 has driven for 160 years - now blind as a bat and deaf BUT loads of experience!! :} :} :}

and then there's Cyclops.............

Sorry though I was refering to him!!

 I find myself agreeing with "Coddy" 100%
I also belive that "lane hoggers!" should face a ?100 fine for a first offence and have their balls/tits cut off for a second offence!!

Speed

Lets not forget that slow speed is just as dangerous for example, hogging the out side lane on the motorway,so peeps have to underpass. :dunno:

Wakes the buggers up though. Always enjoy looking in the mirrors after gliding up the inside of a middle lane hogger and seeing them suddenly realise what they're doing and immediately pull in behind. Mind you got to be a little bit alert to ensure they don't pull over while you're still alongside. Safer and stricly legal way is to do a blatant trip to the outside lane and back but sometimes I just can't be arsed and it doesn't have the same effect on them.
