The longest road in the world to walk is from Cape Town (South Africa) to Magadan (Russia).
No need for planes or boats, there are bridges.
It's 22,387 Kilometers and it takes 4,492 hours to travel.
It would be 187 days walking nonstop, or 561 days walking 8 hours a day.
Along the route, you pass through 17 countries, six time zones, and all seasons of the year.
What about food??

from a standing start the USAAF Eighth Airforce (only a part of the USAAF establishment in Britain) built 132 airfields, 9,700,000 sq feet of warehousing and depots, housing for over 500,000 personnel (more than Washington DC at the time), moved 16,400,000 cubic yards of soil, laid 46,000,000 square yards of concrete and 262,000,000 bricks.

Interestingly none of the airfields had a security perimeter of any sort. Such was the mood of the population it wasn’t felt necessary. Imagine that today, anything not nailed down would be nicked.

Courtesy of ‘Big Week’ by James Holland, an excellent read.

America’s first space station - Skylab - was destroyed in a controlled manner by bringing it down to the earths atmosphere where it broke up. NASA were unsure where the debris would land and aimed as best as they could for The Pacific Ocean. However, some debris landed in Western Australia. The Australian authorities issued NASA with a A$400 fine for littering which was paid.

the Simon Personal Communicator

The first smartphone, created by IBM, was invented in 1992 and released for purchase in 1994. It was called the Simon Personal Communicator (SPC). While not very compact and sleek, the device still featured several elements that became staples to every smartphone that followed.

Man on tv last week claiming cricket was invented in Ireland. It sounded very convincing. Claimed "invading armies" modified it brought it around the world and back to UK.

Cricket was played in quire a few places in Ireland way back and seemingly not areas associated with British army.

One article says first notable match was 1792

Another source claims it was played in County Wexford c1250. This is partly based on archaeological information.

2.25 million cubic yards of concrete was used in building The Hoover Dam.

Enough concrete to build a four lane highway from one end of USA to the other end.

I was playing a club match at St Mellion a few years ago on the Nicklaus course, and as I was playing along one fairway Arnold Palmer was playing on the oncoming fairway next to me.

I don’t think he noticed I was there :risas3:
