Not sure if any of you have had this happen to you yet, or if it's been covered in any other posts (can't find any) but,,,

When taking out new insurance there's a now a new question which is "do you have any hobbies or do any voluntary work?"

Do we have to answer this? My lass has an allotment, would this class as a hobby? If she was on her way there with tools and had a prang would she be screwed for not letting them know that "gardening" was a hobby of hers?

I sometimes play music, it's something I've done for years, If I was on my way to a gig or to jam with some friends and had a prang would I be screwed for not telling them I have a music "hobby"

Personally I find the question invasive of my privacy, what I do in my spare time is my own sodding business and they can simply eff off.... However, do you know where we stand re this new section of insurance bullshit? Can you refuse to answer? If so can they refuse to insure you? What's it all about,,,,???

Many thanks

Chaz

Hiya, I totally agree some of the questions are intrusive and designed to provide the robbing bastards with yet another "get out" :wank:
However to a degree I can understand why they are doing what they do, if say your "hobby" as a musician or DJ, paid a shit load of cash, and you were injured you would want a pay out, as is your right, however both those forms of "hobby" are high risk jobs, as drink and drugs are "part of the scene" and therefore the insurance companies try to cover their arse's!! :dunno:

just playing Devils advocate, and dislike what they seeming try and do, BUT with so many fiddling fuckers driving about uninsured or falsely claiming for whiplash ETC can you really blame them as they are "allegedly" trying to keep prices down by catching the minority of twats fiddling and costing the rest of us a fortune!! :dunno:

I agree that they do ask what are apparently pointless questions, but as Ian says you often have to jump through hoops just to ensure that you are covered on all bases.

The cynic in me thinks that if they have your e mail address, phone number or home address, they can provide your details so that you can be inundated with lots of pointless, but vaguely related to you hobbies, junk mail/calls/emails.

I get all sorts from companies which my lad may have contacted when he was 17!! (no none of them porn)h1d1ng2

AH!! there you go!! :dunno:applying logic to the dummy's questions, it's surprising just how many people simply don't shop around or question these company's!! even in today's financial squeeze's.

My old mother was royally ripped off for years by an insurance company, because she thought as a "loyal" customer she was getting "the best deal" the company had, it was only during an argument about "loyalty" when I took her into a branch of Swintons, :bang: another story, and asked them for a quote for her, they actually quoted ?900 quid lower than her company, even then, she tried to argue that the "cover" was different, the Swinton staff pointed out that the policy quote they gave, was actually BETTER than the policy she had!! that evening was VERY quite as she realised just how much she had paid out extra by being "loyal" :dunno:as said even now lots of people are as misguided as she was!! :dunno:
