Apparently N Ireland is not UK anymore. Some rules appear to apply to citizens from there too.

It was interesting listening to a news report on R4 yesterday, interviewing representatives of employers who rely on cheap foreign labour, saying that under the new immigration policy they'll no longer be able to afford to employ people as the cost of wages will increase, resulting in their businesses folding.

Why?

If they're paying minimum wage anyway, and they shouldn't be paying less, why is the cost of employing people going to increase?

Or do they mean that they'll now have to operate above board & start deducting Tax/NI and pay it over to the Govt.

In all my years in banking I only met one owner of a failed business that blamed themselves.

Always the fault of someone else.

I'm slightly confused.....

They plan to introduce new immigration rules to limit low skilled foreign workers coming here....but we need them to harvest home grown fruit and veg because most of the great unwashed consider it too demeaning to do that sort of work.

We've left the EU so logically we will be looking to impliment more efficient farming techiques to increase our home grown produce and reduce our reliance on imports.....but the new immigration rules will reduce the available foreign workforce that will help to do that.

Is it just me, or this a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face...?

I was watching the news yesterday, and they came out with statistics about the percentage of employees who are immigrants, and i think in carework it was 10%. To me that means 90% weren't immigrants. The same apples to other jobs that we are being told British people don't want to do!
