Looking back why did teenagers opt for the Fizzer when maxed out downhill would do 50 when the ss50 could manage 60 on the flat?

Ah, yes this old debate. They was one of our crowd had an ss50 it did 80, yup down bullshit hill with a force 9 behind it.
I suspect if you tested a moped speedometer you would find it wildly optimistic.

Getting back to TC's picture, what a cracking bike. I do find myself yearning for the bikes of my youth but I suspect an RD250A or a CB400/4 might not feel as good as we once remember them. I'm still giving serious consideration for another Yamaha TZ350E but at around 12k a little too steep for nostalgia.

In my yoof I remember that one our biking buddies rocked up on a brand new fizzer.
At the time i had a Suzuki GT185.
After pulling up at the local chippy and
admiring his new shiny wonder, he was last in for his fish supper and whilst he was in the queue...the rest of us agreed to christen his new steed, but not with our expensive chips and gravy....oh no!
On the count of three and a quick check around, we all pulled our tally wackers out and pissed all over his steed....
Oh how we laughed when he came out and thought it had been raining.:risas3:

'cos the fizzy had go faster Yamaha racing stripes and the SS50 didn't :)

I missed out on these things as they came along just after my moped days.

I had a Raleigh Runabout :(

Its a nice thing but I missed out on the whole 50cc thing as had been riding much bigger stuff from the age of 14 and waited until I was 17 to get my first bike on the road fully legal (Honda H100)
As it turned out that was a good decision as a lot of mates were stuck with 50's for ages and I moved on rather quickly through having a decent well paid job and working bloody hard

Yes, but how long did it take to get to 60?
There was more fun to be had from the traffic light grand prix and then the SS50 was always at the back!

And then there was the smell! MMmm! Two stroke. The memories flood back When ever I start up my strimmer!

Puch maxi was always at the back, as I recall the Garelli tiger was quite quick away from the lights

I missed the whole 50cc thing and went straight to a GT185.

God, how I had to wring it's neck in an effort to keep up with other twats who'd all bought 250's...... Hedges became my own personal airbags.

Did yer baffles come loose and fire off in
the distance? Lost count how many times

Mr local plod didn't like what he thought
was a lame excuse every time I got stopped.

I doubt anything bar exhaust fumes would've escaped the dented zorts on mine.
