While chatting to the middle aged female barmaid in our hotel I mentioned we were going to the theatre for an evening of Burt Bacharach.

She had no idea who Burt Bacharach is.

Just as I was leaving ‘Downtown’ by Petula Clark came on the piped music system.

I asked if she liked it…”oooh yes, one of my favourites, they don’t write them like that anymore”.

And I was chatting to a fellow doing a falconry display earlier today who used to live about a hundred yards away from where I live now.

Better than fiction.

When I transferred to Chelmsford there was a civvy workmen there, I think his name was Ron Price, nice fella but quite a bit older than me, one day I was escorting some engineers who were working with Ron, whilst chatting over a cuppa Ron noticed my accent & said “Leeds” I said yeah & for a joke I said whereabouts in Leeds, he replied “cross green” he was only a couple of miles out, anyway as we chatted he asked if I got married in Leeds I said yes 20th August 1977 in St Wilfreds at Halton, he told me he got married in St Wilfreds on 20th August 1955, after getting married they spent two years living with his Mother in law on Whitebridge crescent, I was brought up at number 4 Whitebridge Crescent.

While bored out of my skull at a works Xmas do at my Mrs place I happened to hear the hottest chick in the room (other than Mrs B obviously) mention ‘Byng House’ . My ears pricked up,as that is where I was born, police accommodation. After a bit of chatting it turned out that we were the closest of playmates until we left left when I was three. Twenty five years later. who would have believed it eh? When I asked her why she had mentioned Byng House at an Xmas piss up while I happened to be in earshot she genuinely had no idea.

Spooky.

Hottest chick??? Are you a teenage yank?

what she actually said was that she was buying a house but you made up a tale to try to get in her knickers (not pants, that’s American)

Not Roundhay high girl’s School by any chance? My Mother’s School.
St Mary's Catholic College it seems.
Probably amalgamated into something else now. She would have been there in 70s I guess.
