OK - having at last managed to get Codbasher off the computer I need to know exactly how much truth is in the following statement -

'Daaaarliiiing, it's just impossible to get more that 3000 miles out of my rear tyre, it just can't be done' ?

Am I being conned - (again)?

Well I can see you're not going to be any help :}

O.K. .....serious answer !!!! Depends on riding style, type of use the bike is put to, make (and model) of tyre etc.

I had a Dunlop 205 on the rear of the 'Bird...6000 miles and when I took it off it still had plenty of tread left. Problem was.... the compound was so hard it gave no grip in the wet and precious little grip in the dry !!!! The grippier the tyre the quicker it'll wear.....but what price the old man's safety.....and your's too if you're on the pillion ?????

The softer compound of the Bridgstone 020's or the Avon AV45/46's will wear faster......but as long as you tell him to avoid doing burnout's and doughnuts on 'em......you should see 4500-5000 miles in my experience.

P.S. Track day's don't help tyre presevation either !!!!! :blush: :blush:

Thanks for your most informative answer - he was last seen scurrying out of the room - as far as I am aware (and because of his advancing years) he does not do donuts or burnouts but there is no way that he is going to make even 4000 miles - the only way he is going to make 3000 is by pushing it for the next 2 weeks LOL. I take your point about the Dunlop's, had heard that about them, and no I don't want to be on a Wurlitzer. I just have to laugh when it gets quietly slipped into an (irrelevant) conversation that he will be needing new tyres in the (very) near future!! :lol: and then the frantic explanations when I point out he only had new ones a couple of months ago!!(April)! :} :}

Get him to try the Avon's. From my (and others) experience they seem to give as good, if not better, grip than the Bridgestone's and so far mine are wearing well.

1200Pete was doing some good deals on a pair.....worth a try, ain't it ??? :dunno:

Yes we saw Pete at AllyPally and he said that he was doing a good deal on the Avons and also that they were compatable with the Bridgestones so think we will give him a call - guess I wasn't being totally conned then!!

Def Avons !
I have already passed double the milage I was getting out of the previous tyres I have used.. They grip like shit to the side of a shed, last for yonks, and even after 4K= miles of motorways, two track days, 2K miles of normal roads, I reckon I still have another trip to Italy and back in them !
