Having been running round on the Crosstourer for the last few weeks, worrying about stopping and getting a firm plant with my tip toes.
I've just lowered it by 20mm, doesn't sound much but the bike feels small now!
I think once I get a bit more confident about its weight (606lb), I can see I may revert it back to standard!!!
606lb! :yikes: That’s heavier than my Panzer, which is a decidedly svelte 580 fully fuelled. But then I add another 205lb and that’s before I put any clothes on.

If I have a bike on the full stand, I usually put the side stand down before I take it off the full stand as it gives me a way of settling the bike if something goes wrong, I can yank the bike towards the side stand.
Did it with the Crosstourer only for the side stand to drop onto the big toe of my left foot!!!
Don't think I'll be doing that again, mind you, I can hardly get it on the centre stand now!

I've lowered many of the bikes I've owned and once you get used to the new height it's quite difficult to revert back.
That extra 20mm or so makes a big difference if you can't get both feet down when you're 2 up on a fully loaded bike.
Factor in the state of the roads these days and it's even more likely with a standard setup and short legs to get caught out by an unexpected camber, dip or pothole, when you put your foot down.

I had a Triumph Exploder a couple of years ago, what a mistake, and I lowered it as it was a tall beast and then that made the centrestand almost unusable.

I had a Cagiva Elefant 750 a few years ago. That never got the lowering treatment and oddly enough I loved riding that (it was the ex-wife's at the time, but she hated it), although I never toured or took pillions on it.
I looked like I was in a motocross race when at the lights.... right leg down and the left hooked over the seat resting on the footpeg (just) , which was also how I approached a stop. Setting off also required a bit of a lunge to get back in the saddle. It was almost worth keeping it just for the looks that I used to get from car drivers....until the day I had to lay it down at a junction after putting my foot in a pothole.... with a full tank (about 5.5 gallons) at the time, it was a real bitch to get back upright.

While most of the big touring off road type things are fairly decent bikes the only ones I like the look of is the early 1050 sport & the original dr800 big which at least has a little off road potential

The GS and GS A can do some serious off-road shit (with the correct tyres on, but you know what I mean).

I wouldn't fancy taking the crosstourer off road because of its weight but I have come across one YouTube vid from America (I think)
where the guy turned off the TC and was rear wheel steering the thing through forest tracks!

They are indeed a magnificent set of punks. I had to opt for classy ones this time because Will.I.Was complained about the last set not being to his taste. Some people

What the hell is a Triumph Exploder? :meparto:
(Proper made me laff, did that!)
Well it was supposed to be an Explorer 1200. But when a fuse went in the fan and it then overheated and chucked its coolant all down the street in Italy, and was recovered to the local triumph dealer (who were excellent in dealing with me right away) they diagnosed a blown fuse. Then in order to refill with coolant and test that all was OK, the only way to bleed the cooling system is to remove the fuel tank and run it up to speed with a special tool fuel tank. The tank can only come off if it’s very low on fuel and then the balance fuel hoses need to be removed and blanked with special plugs.

exploder - well that was me! What a horrendous situation, how the hell are you supposed to do a repair in the wild! This is “supposed” to be an adventure bike - what a load of tosh.

anyway, I got home to UK a few days later and partx’d it immediately for another ZZR1400

never another Bloor Triumph for me after that.
