I would like to know how to advance my timing a few degrees. Honda sets the XX timing to run on 87 octane fuel, I figure advancing a few degrees would mean running 93 octane and gaining a hp or 2. Flame me if I'm wrong. but this works great on autos

Advance or Retard Ignition Timing
Maximum Flexibility = Maximum Performance
Fine tune your power with FACTORY! Gain maximum flexibility and maximum performance from your motorcycle with a Factory Adjustable Ignition Rotor. Now timing can be set to exactly match the requirements of your engine. The same motorcycle may need different timing as jet kits, hi-flow filters, exhausts, porting or compression are added or changed.

Fixed Ignition Rotors More Horsepower.

Fixed Style Ignition Rotors
Advance Ignition Timing
Simple Installation
Bolt On In Minutes
Reliable 1 Piece Design
Available in several ranges of advance - +1.5 degrees to +6 degrees in select applications.
No loose screws - no need to "Loctite" for safety!
In just minutes, bolt on a FACTORY ignition advance unit and gain real horsepower and quicker throttle response. Used by many of America's top roadracers. "

I have tried this several times on a DYNO and found that I lost HP and TQ when the timing was advanced or retarded. We tried this first on a 97 XX which had been mildly modified (Erion Racing exhaust, ported and milled head). The second bike we experimented with was my 99 XX which has similar modifications with the addition of Erion cams. The 97 bike had a adjustable ignition plate. My bike has a power commander 2 which has programmable timing. Both bikes had the timing adjusted on the Dyno and were re-run to determine results. neither bike gained anything and in fact both lost power. We did not experiment with fuel octane in either case. The 97 XX and my 99 XX were run on the Dyno with 89 octane gas. They both need 89 instead of 87 octane gas due to having the heads milled .5 mm. It has been my experience that running high octane pump gas does nothing for a street bike unless the compression ratio is high enough to need it. High octane gas burns slower than lower octane and in effect retards timing. A stock compression XX does not need higher octane fuel. Honda has done a very good job with the ignition curve on the XX. Some other bikes benefit from advancing timing. My 00 ZX-12 gained HP and TQ everywhere on the Dyno from advancing the timing 5 degrees.

@XXblitzkreg

same statement as jstewart did. Tried everything with PC-II last year on a DYNO at my 99'bird. The only thing which will happen - you're going to loose a lot of HP.
So do yourself a favour - don't touch it. The ignition-map done by Honda is absolutely perfect, not the fu.. shit they did with the fuel-map.

You don't say whether you have carb or inj bird but if it is injection the new pc3 will adjust fuel and timing to the best settings for your speed at all times
