Question for you aviation fans out there - how much does it cost to keep a helicopter in the air? I ask this because whilst out on the bike on Saturday I stopped for a brew and got talking to a ZZR1100 rider and he told me that the North Wales plod had the helicopter buzzing about further up the road ( A534 Wrexham - Nantwich). Being a nosey git I went and had a look. Lo and behold there it was hovering just off the road obviously looking up and down the road for naughty bikers. What a waste of money!

I think around ?800 an hour is nearer the mark. If it was hovering just off the road it wasn't looking for bikes, to do that it will be at altitude so you can't spot it very easily, it does lots of other things beside monitor speeding vehicles...........Calm down dear it's only a helicopter. g0551p

'Tis true...

..... North Wales police do indeed regularly use a 'copter for speed enforcement. Well done Mr Brunstrom, Blunstrom whatever yer name is. It's so reassuring to see public funds used so wisely....

I don't know about the small puddle jumpers but Pumas are about ?3k an hour, Chinooks nearer ?5K. Still, thats probably the MoD getting ripped off big time again. How many redundancies :bang: :bang: , and they want me to go back to places hot and sandy again in the new year. :h
