I know his head was up his chuff box, but why did he climb back over the safety barrier? He was on the other side when the car eventually landed?
The side he was on had a run run off track
and about 20 metres of grass.
Had no reason to climb back into danger.

Must have been a chance in a million for the pointy bit to align itself with the gap between the armco and prise them apart.

I dare say panic and not being able to see out of a melted visor might have something to do with it?

Confusion, panick. Very disorientated after a big shunt like that
