Horror find during service..

RHINO

Answering to nobody
I stripped my bike for service on Thursday afternoon and when i took off the seat i saw something i've not noticed on previous occasions.
The bolt that holds the subframe to the main frame on the l/h/s was loose......the nut was off and lay near the battery and the bolt was midway out

The only person to work around that area of the bike since me owning it has been ME! I have had NO need to ever touch it so how long its been like that is anyones guess. I have now removed the otherside to, added thread lock and put them back in place. Has anyone else experienced such a problem, could it have vibrated free or has it been missed SOMEHOW on the previous 2 services i have done,,, doubt it as it jumped out at me,,, but whatever the cause it made me go over bike carefully and check everything..
This may have had some bearing on the handling problem i encountered recently, i'm off on a little journy this afternnon and i'll see if it cures some of my symptoms.

Well Rhino mate.....

when I went to 1200Petes to have the brakes de-linked (god, not another plug...LOL) Pete spotted that the horizontal bolt going through the topmount of the shockabsorber was just about undone  ... But before that (about 6 months) I found the topcentre(vertical) bolt on the shocker was also lose   ... I had tightened this, and checked all the other bolts which were found to be tight, and to the correct torque...So, it must have vibrated lose over about 3000 miles...And that is with a nyloc nut on it too... So I have now replaced both the above mentioned nuts with brand new ones to see if they come lose again (fookin hope not :bang: )

Hope things are good for you & Emma.

See ya soon mate,

Rolfy

I had a look at Tootys side stand the other day when I was parking it coz it wouldnt go down, the nut on the end was off and the bolt was half out, I hate to think what would have happened if i'd just kicked it harder to make it go.
I guess I'd be sleeping in the garage that still aint got a roof!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :violin:

HARLEYS 'DO' fall to bits!!!

Mine must have been working its way loose over a period of time,, 10,000 miles in 12 months aint bad going for a bike.. (que the big mileage brigade)

I noticed it coz i check things, dunno its history before me owning it and now i'm putting right anything i can find.
As for your Harley, i once saw a farmers gate held together with orange bail string,, that was crude and practical but i'd never have marketed it.........
