A Doctor referred our Grandson Joe to be tested for autism & adhd, daughter has just found out that they are not taking it any further as the School have not referred him, the problem is Joe is really well behaved & helpful, he is doing work of the class above him, the only time his behaviour manifests itself is at dinnertime when he cannot sit still.
Really don’t know where we go from here.

The school should have a ESN teacher ( educational special needs or SENCO ) you will need to get him/her onboard to progress any further..... but don't give up ... keep trying it can take a few attempts to get the help your grandson may need.
PM me if you want to talk more.

Joe’s teacher is the ESN qualified teacher, because she has not seen first hand evidence she won’t do anything about it

On a schoolday he takes forever to get out of bed yet he loves school, he gets distracted whilst getting dressed or brushing his teeth, ask him what he wants for breakfast he changes his kind several times, he argues with my daughter & his sisters, hard to describe but he is the kindest most loving child I know, he will forget something & blame everybody else, walkingto school he will pick up a stick, he puts it down when told but less than 30 seconds later he will pick up another stick, he throws things without seeming to realise the consequences, this is just the tip of the iceberg, I don’t have emough space to put everything down.

Why don't you video him on yer camera phone..discreet like.
Surely that would be enough evidence?

On the face of it it dosen' t sound like autisium... but I can only speak from my experience.... does he seem distracted ?
Appear not to hear when addressed ?
Play in a liniar fashion ?
Have no concept of others feelings ?
Repeat tasks or play over and over again ?
Get upset when he cant do something he wants to ?
Have a very rigid diet ... unwilling even to try anything new ?
Show violence towards family and siblings ?
Be an obsessive collector of toys or objects ?
Finds comfort in a private place he can be alone ?
Is there a trigger for his behaviour ?

These are just a few of the traits... but not all by a long way...
Hope this helps

Told daughter to do that, problem is if he discovered the camera he’d turn it into a missile, forgot to mention he has certain tics that will last a couple of weeks then he’ll start with another, he will hear a phrase & repeat it several times under his breath, he will say exactly what he thinks as sometimes he doesn’t seem to have boundaries.

Is he sensitive to loud noises or bright lights ?
From what you have said he does seem to have some anger issues... could this be connected to his negligent dad ?
He may well feel betrayed by him and its manifesting itself in his behaviour...
Is he ok talking to other adults ?
I know it may be hard to accept but he may need counciling to reassure him he is loved and wanted.... Im guessing here m8.

No apparent sensitivity to bright lights or noises, we make sure he never goes short of cuddles, he is sociable with adults but can be awkward with his peers, one instance that springs to mind was last year, his friend who lives over the road brought his plastic goal nets into the street, Joe volunteered to go in goals, during the kickabout Joe turned the goals round & refused to turn them back round. We considered that the cause may be his useless Father but that could be just us using our hatred to blame him, Joe & the two girls are always hyper when they’ve been with him.

My gut instinct is that the problem is not autisium... but dont quote me ....its a very wide spectrum.
Diet can be a trigger too, he may not even be aware of the behavioral changes he is going through... it could be he is allergic to a food group which is giving rise to his tics and such like.... may be worth persuing... do these episodes seem to happen just before or after mealtimes ?

Make a diary and note any episodes .. try and find the trigger... its there ....you just cant see it at the moment.

Knew a kid who couldn't eat red sweets.
Used drive him completely nuts.
Can't remember how they discovered.

Remember E number thing in foods etc.

The domestic situation wouldn't help.

What about a session with psychiatrist for analysis.

I know I had problems in late teen early 20s. Well, I only realised many years later when I came across a case of reactive behaviour. Can't remember what it was.
Then I realised what was going on.
We were living in my grandmother's house and she was being difficult.
