It's official, the 'bird is back on the road.

MOT'd this morning @ 72,892 miles.
Passed without a problem.

He also went over it in detail to check everything for me following the bits of work sorting it out.

Verdict:

Spot on, suggested taking the brake pedal off, clean up and grease pivot, clutch fluid needs changing (gave me a free bottle of fluid) and front sprocket needs replacing - knew that and I've got one in the toolbox ready to go on.

Everything is still nice and tight, rear shock is good, front forks fine, steering head bearings spot on, no play and really smooth.

His view was it proves just how good they are, they've never managed to match it and probably never will.

Downside ........ it's been pissing down all morning ... yurghhhh

Anyway, I'm happy and smiling !!!

Sounds like you have a good tester there - hang on to them!!

72,892 miles - wait until the engine has run in before making any changes.....

Yep, surprising thing is ...... he's Honda dealer ..... business has been in the family for a few years.

When I asked him if there was anything he thought I'd overlooked and might need attention due to the miles .....

Just shook his head and said ......... nope, not on these ...... did say don't touch the steering head bearings, well smooth and perfectly adjusted (they've not been touched since new!).

Front sprocket now changed, it was horrid !!

Might change the chain as the sprocket was so bad, don't want to ruin the new sprocket etc

And the rear............you will most likely knacker everything significantly faster if you use a mix of new and old chain/sprockets.....

It’s a false economy to only change a sprocket, or a chain. I was always told to change all 3 at the same time, and if you’ve got a “horrid” front sprocket it will have done some nasties to the chain right away. My bird has done 15k miles and had a new chain at 10k - I will be putting on a new kit quite soon as the ‘new’ chain is very rusty as it simply hasn’t had enough use to dry off any rainwater it may have seen in it’s barely 250 miles a year.

Oh, as a bit of a funny aside. I was racing at Planta Sod a few years ago, and somehow acquired the nom de plume of “chain breaker to the stars” as I have a pukka chain breaker/maker. Can you shorten my chain mate? Was the request. So I sidled up to the ZX12R or whatever it was and chopped out half a dozen links to suit the shorter wheelbase he wanted to use. Then I asked him for his soft link to rivet in place and of course he didn’t have one. We scrabbled around for the pins I’d driven out and managed to create a rivet link - it worked!

Yep, going to get new chain and rear sprocket done over the next week or so.

Chain and rear sprocket were fairly new, but having seen the front one (which wasn't replaced - I know!) I'll play safe and get them done.
