Honda Panniers for Blackbird

Hello there Folks,

I am a new member, having just taken delivery of my new 2007 Blackbird, with the Honda GT Pack, which includes the 2 Panniers and fitting racks. It looks great, and the frame isn't too ugly with the panniers off. The panniers are a reasonable size (33 litres) although not as big as some.

The problem seems to be that, the rear pegs are fairly high and quite close to the front edge of the panniers, making it fairly difficult for the pillion to climb on and off.

Has anybody else come across this problem and is there any adjustment that can be made without making big modifications.

The Bird has been around a long time, so I can't believe that I am the first to have this problem. Any help or advice out there would be much appreciated.

Cheers.:dunno:

good looking AND modest
you might try a search on lowered pegs, bluell pegs seem to be the short answer, :dunno:

The only problem with the Buell conversion, is that they also move the pegs back as well as down, so would put them nearer the panniers, sorry...

We have the same hassle with the Givi panniers as Jan has to use my front peg to get on/off, then lift her feet back & onto her own pegs...

If you get to move the rear pegs forward & down, you may find that her boot toes will interfere with your heels when you are riding...

Hope you manage to get it sorted to your satisfaction..

Best wishes,

Rolfy

M&P do something for the rider and pillion that may help ...go to thier website and type in vario.

Basically its a two part footrest with the main fitting and a few different lengths footrests.

I know your problem, many bmw's we tried found that the rear panniers rubbed/infringed on the pillions comfort.

Failing that, chop her legs off, put one in each pannier then put em back on when she gets off... or get a new bint ..a dwarf possibly?

Hey Dufus,

My Mrs. loved the idea of chopping her legs off and putting them one in each pannier. Only problem would be fitting them in with the hair dryer, curling tongs, stiletto heels, and little black over the shoulder number.

Anyway, will check-out M & P%$fan

This might help...they seem not only to be able to allow you to choose the length but also minor adjustments to direction..m & p do them

Failing that the NEC is due on in a matter of a few weeks I am sure something would be avaliable there.

Find the NEC who's displaying shortly before the show, if there are the type of pegs being shown by a stall holder contact them before and ask if there is a show price, if so and it's cheaper then buy a set and save on postage also.

P.S. To get the best deal tell them you are trial running them before your feedback goes into B.I.R.D. ..I.X.X.R.A. etc etc.You get the drift.

I know many people however on a separate issue think the honda panniers look ok but are put off because you can't have a top box fitted with them as well...unless you know different?

Excuse me sticking my two penneth in being a newbie to the site/

Hi everyone

I have looked into this and I see the biggest problem being that to lower the rear pegs would mean lowering the exhaust cans cos the rear pegs sit so close to the top of the cans.

Thanks Chanmenie,

Every two pennyworth is welcome. Have been away on a tour of France, hence my absense from this site.

Never looked closely at Rolfys buell pegs, but the way that I fitted them they moved the peg FORWARD and DOWN. This does move them closer to the riders boots but it didn't seem to bother me.

Also, same as Rolfy, Sandra uses the rider pegs to 'mount' and then move backwards.

The ST1300 pillion pegs were also very close to the boxes, which meant that the pillion had only one foot position. (in fact the Pan was terrible when compared to the Bird with Givi boxes!)
