Just had our renewal through from John Lewis and it's gone up £125 to £1,685 for the year! :yikes:

I wouldn't mind a couple of quid but, considering we've never claimed in the three years we've been with them, that's taking the piss! Think I might have to look elsewhere for a better quote.

You sure you have got this right?

we only pay around £250 including contents and we don’t live in the undeveloped part of the country.

I can send you the email, if you want. Whilst I live in a third world Marxist dictatorship, I can read & write remarkably well.

House is Band F and do have some specialist items on the policy but they shouldn't hike it that much.

Between that and his council tax, I think you might be right....
If the promulgate hike is correct and my maths is half as good as I think it is, council tax will be £2,726.50 next year. We have the fourth highest council tax in the Soviet Republic of Wales.

I'm with Beaker :)

What you're quoting is what my parents were paying when they were ripped off by age concern.
They'd taken out home insurance through them thinking they were getting a good deal and then didn't change it for years.
They ended up paying per month what I pay per year.

I've just had a renewal quote from direct line for 270 I think, up on last tears 240 but they told me not to worry as they'd auto renew.

Rang em up and told them I wasn't going to pay anyone more for anything this year as I'd had a pay cut.
Also pointed out that I explicitly told them last tear not to auto renew.
They immediately offered a price £1.00 lower than last year.

Told em I'd think about it but highly unlikely in view of their attitude with auto renewal.

We have a couple of items that bump up the policy. I'm gonna ring them and see what's going on and then get a separate quote for the other items and another for normal buildings and contents. I had to take out this policy when I came home from Singapore and didn't have time (or, more truthfully, couldn't be arsed) to shop around. This will be the second renewal but I'm beginning to think they're taking the piss now.

Mines buildings and contents with one mill on contents - no I don't have anything near that!!!

House is four bed detached with garage attached.

Pow-Lo I’m guessing the ‘speciality items’ MATRON! are the wrist borne timepieces that nobody uses any more - if so it is one of the rare occasions where I would suggest going to a broker might be a good idea.

in my experience premiums can be massively affected by small details, such as having a ruddy good safe professionally installed.

Tried that and the cover is more expensive than my renewal for my items plus buildings and contents. Looks like I might not be getting burned after all.

We have a professionally installed safe, alarm and big f'ing dog.

Mine's a 2,700 sq.ft five bed detached with garage. I've just had a separate quote on my 'items', all of which have to be individually valued, and the quote for them alone came in significantly more expensive than my renewal.

When I renew they don't ask how many square feet.
It all how many rooms, bathrooms, garage, confirm it's brick built with no flat roofs.
Contents for me us pretty basic.

I am guessing the specialty items are watches but whatever they are they must be worth a few bob to justify such a large premium, just a thought but wouldn't getting them of the property and into safe storage at a bank reduce the premium ?

I dont even know if that idea is practical or not so as i say just a thought !

It's his Nunchucks or whatever the hell he calls them.
Smash them about the house and yer premium is bound to go up.
