Hit and run update.

You may remember I posted a thread about a fatal hit and run on a motorcyclist in herefordshire,here is a news report taken from the local paper this week:

35-year-old man has been committed for crown court trial on charges arising from a fatal road accident near Ledbury in July.

Adrian McDonald Carroll, of Willow Close, Beare Greene, Dorking, is accused of careless driving, failing to report an accident, failing to stop after an injury accident, driving without insurance and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The man who died in the accident on July 29 was Craig Fensome, 41, of Broadholme Road, Belmont, Hereford.

He was riding a motorcycle on the A417 at Bromsberrow Heath, when he was involved in a collision with a vehicle which left the scene - allegedly Mr Carroll's.

At a hearing at Gloucester Magistrates' Court on Monday, Mr Carroll was committed for trial at the city's crown court.

At an earlier hearing, it had been suggested by the Crown Prosecu-tion Service that Mr Carroll might have to face a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

However, only the careless driving charge - driving without due care and attention - has been added to the allegations he already faced.

What price human life eh???? The number of times people cause death by dangerous driving and get the charges reduced, when I first joined the Prison service I was doing my first six weeks at Leeds Prison, on the night I was learning about reception, The fifth earl of Wharncliffe was brought in on remand as he had been over the limit, and had run over someone and killed them, he had previous convictions for drink driving, however if memory serves me correctly he ended up getting about five years, so he will actually only have served about three years, and most of them at a cushy nick.
