For anyone interested and wants to have their say, the review of the Highway Code is underway in respect of Motorways and faster roads, and an open consultation document has been issued.

More here

They're also looking at licence upgrades and motorcycle tests as well.

The 250cc motorcycle test seems sensible anything to get folks off dangerously slow 125cc bikes is good in my book.
The HGV manual / auto gearbox thing is another case. Sure most large trucks are auto boxes, however anyone who has driven a multigear manual HGV (12+gears ) will testify that they do take lot more skill to use than an auto.
IMHO. all large HGV tests should be on manuals... it teaches you roadcraft and forward planning... a good thing when your hauling 44 tons.

From the standard of driving I have witnessed in recent years nobody reads the highway code anymore or if they do they ignore it so updating any part of it is a little pointless imo
