I cannot believe I am gonna say ths , but........................

If you want tyres that are completely useless as far as grip goes but will give truly massive miles, Dunlop D205's..

If your happy with about 9000 miles from a rear though, then stick with the good guys and get a pair of Avon ST's ( be sure you get pucka b type though )
020's are a good tyre but sqaure off as soon as you get on a motorway slip road let alone start racking up big m way miles !

Oh Bugger!!

Got a nail in my rear in Germany and had an 020 fitted. Prehaps not the best idea after that piece of advice. :xm

I concur !!! My 'Bird had them fitted from new.....couldn't wear 'em out !!! Took 'em off after 8000 miles and they still looked good for another 8000 !!

I fitted Avon ST's simply to improve grip but for straightline, high mileage the 205's would be hard to beat !!!!

9000 miles out of an Avon!!!!!! best I ever got was 4000 out of a 205 and that's the best I've ever got out of a rear tyre in 30 years of riding bikes.

The 020's I use last about 3000 on the rear and I dont ever go on a motorway. I stay clear of major roads so all my riding is acclerate and brake.

I just dont know how people can get such high mileage from a rear tyre, must not be using their bikes very hard at all.

GO FOR THE AVON ST

Ive done the south of france this year and some good ride outs ,ive covered about 3500 miles and not even half worn the rear and i ride the bike hard ,not like some old gits you see on the raod ,i got the tyres of ebay on the blackbird search ,cheepbiketyres if i remember right ,i am more than happy with the grip as i can almost get the pegs to grind out i would say the rears good for 6k before the flat stops to bad. but if you use a lot of twisty raods then this will keep them round
i paid ?139 delivered and most good tyre dealers will change a lose pair for ?15:beer:

Nobby, have you ever considered that it just may be that folk who get high mileage are doing something right and you are doing something wrong ? ( not wrong wrong, but not right.. errrrr..... uuuummmm pass me another shovel.. I need a bigger one to get outa this hole ! )

I know battery boy is far from a slouch and I have ridden with enough folk on here for them to tell you I am a bit fond of 'making progress' ..
Honest truth is that I have NO idea how I manage to make tyres last so well, praps its the average 110,000 miles a year I used to rack up, praps you are right and I am a slow old fart and a total :wank: , but the bottom line is that it aint me dibbing into the old back pocket every couple of months R#?

Just my opinion

Last Friday rode my own Bird hard on 020's 25 or so miles then jumped on Steve's running Avons and after 10 miles hard just wanted to give him his bike back. I will suffer a little more wear rate for the grip and stability offered by the 020's. I felt that the Avons did not inspire confidence at all. As I said just my opinion. But we all know that opinions are like ar$e holes, every body's got one.

so its dunlops for milage
the 020's sqare off to easily
and the avons are good general al rounders, some one stated a dodgy feel on the avons, any more on that

ebay sells all of them!

Jerry, unless you want to be inundated with so many opinions I would suggest you search for Avon and BT posts..

There is a big following of Avon and an almost equally large following for the BT range :p

Bigger spade please :h

I dont think I do anything wrong at all. I just use the bikes power. TBH I dont square my tyres off at all. The front lasts about 6K but its the sides that are worn out first. The rear last about 3-3.5K but it's been a while since i wore one out last 3 went down with punctures. The middle does ware out first but there is not much left on the sides with the outer edge being chewed up.

Dont forget for the 25 years before I bought the Bird I've riden top of the range sports bike. I just ride the bird the same.

I got 6,500 out of a BT020 rear, all on one trip.

It was squared off and cooked after that but I feel like thats pretty good
service.

I ran a BT014 front at the same time and it still had some life in it, could go another 2,000 probabily.

I think the BT020's are fine on the Bird.... JMO...ofcourse

I agree with Nobby.....

Excluding this last problem tyre, mine seem to wear out about halfway round the tyre both sides not in the centre and not on the edge those bits wear evenly.
But I must say my last 020 did wear out evenly all over leaving about 1mm from the middle to the chicken strip.
