Nice never seen luggage look right on a bird, but that carries it off.

The Wingrack does look far better with luggage on - without luggage it is just a lump of scaffolding... Speaking as someone with said scaffolding.

Bar Conversion

Blackbika

I just love the bar conversion. I know you said that you had to replace the clutch line because you never liked having to bend the connection but was there any other difficulties in putting the adaptor plates and bars on. If there isn't then I definitely am going to convert my T reg Bird. All adivice would be welcomed.

there were no problems really , just take your time i also re routed the throttle cables and the wires from the switch gear just to give a bit more clearence.

as for the longer clutch line you can either buy one from lsl as they do list it as a part , or get one made up i think mine was 1150 mm long with the elbow on one end with a 22.5 degree set in it to fit on the clutch cylinder and one on the other end 90 degrees opposed .

i highley recomend this conversion , it completely transforms the bike worth every penny

Welcome to the forum, if you'd bought a BLACKbird in the first place you wouldn't need to transform it :p

Thank you for your last reply.Well you have convinced me as I am now waiting for the arrival of the conversion kit. Its a 2 week wait apparently. So I am now stuck here chewing my nails about fitting all the parts.Looking at your bike it appears that the yoke conversion is easy enough to fit but can I ask again do the brake lines need to be changed and if they do did you drain the system down completely or is there a way of avoiding doing this. Can I also ask whether you had to either drill the bars to fit the throttle etc or did you grind as I understand it the lug under the throttle etc.
Iam really looking forward to having a more upright riding position because prior to buying this bike I had road tested a GS1200 BMW and although everyone seems to think that they are brilliant the only thing I did like was sitting more upright. As for performance smoothness and comfort it does not come anywhere near the Bird.
Any info you can give me on how to fit these bits would be appreciated.Hopefully we will get to meet at a future event somewhere.

Regards

Ted

so i convinced you did i , you fool. honestly theyre easy to fit. yes you do have to fit the new brake lines all the way to the calipers, the original line goes down to the top of the mudguard and is then tee'd off with rigid pipework if i remember right.

i took all of this away you will have to move some of the spacers about that hold the other pipework in place for the linked rear brake, it will all become obvious once you get started.

as for bleeding the brakes don't forget you only have to do the front ones the linked rear operates from a different system.

as for drilling the bars , i didn't bother just get a dremmell or a sharp stanley knife and cut the lug off.

if i get home early enough in the week from work or over the weekend i'll see if i can take some pics for you and post them here.

p.s if you wanted a ride out you could come and have a look at my bike in the flesh

just took some pics, don't know if there any use to you

1st pic is of the brake line you have to remove, single end to master cylinder end the 2 others to the calipers

IMG_1483.jpg

this pic is of the clutch line , i don't know which route you are taking but i had one made up, or you can buy one from lsl or you could bend the original one like lsl suggest, but i didn't like the idea of that . ( 26 years in engineering 10 years in hydraulics , bending thin wall bundy tube more than once aint a good idea)

IMG_1484.jpg

third pic shows the 2 new lines piggy backed onto the master cylinder

IMG_1488.jpg

and the fourth just shows the new line connected to one of the calipers

hope these help, if i can be of any other assistance feel free to ask

Pedantic twit. I know exactly what it's like, since there's been one on my bike for the last few weeks, as you'd know if you followed forum traffic :p.

YOUR BIKE

Hi blackbirdbika,
nice looking mods on your bike; I am thinking about the same bar mods as the one you have, guess I could sell the v-tec ones I have which will deflect some of the cost, not to mention the annoyingly rational queries from herself about making up my mind once and for all.
Did you just take the plunge and buy the kit, or had you seen/tried someone else's?

Aha, Seamusb, another newbie. Putting your first post in a serious section was bad form, you know. It delays the important stuff, like....

Welcome to the nuthatch.

Want a sweetie, little boy?
