Just booked the Portsmouth to La Havre ferry for September for a 2 week break on the bikes. I've been around most of Brittany and Normandy before, but never been further south than La Rochelle. I'm hoping to persuade Jane that she really does want to ride down to the Pyrenees and around Andorra.

I know a few of you have been around that area before, so anyone got any recommendations on good roads, places to stay etc. in the Pyrenees area.

You could stay at Lumpy's the night before you sail.
He would be delighted to put you up for the night.

ANDORRA

WELL worth visiting but be warned........loads of bike shops and silly cheap prices. You'll end up buying loads of kit and having no means of getting it home.
Spent a full day on the MAD twisty roads around there in 2000 on my KWAK and spent weeks after grinning like a Cheshire cat.

A couple of maps worth buying pre hand are 'Michelin Regional France' No 526 which has on the front 'Midi-Pyrenees' and also 'Michelin National' No734 for Spain / Portugal... ?4.50 & ?5.00 from Waterstones.

Drop in my bro, sure he'd make you a brew.

Pyrenees Routes?

 no problems, buy the Michelin maps as already stated above, look for the 'green' hi-lited routes, these are the scenic routes and just happen to be great moutain roads, you will enjoy it, good time to go as well, use local tourist offices to find cheap hotels, the high up ski resorts are also worthwhile, not too many skiers in Sept!! R#?

pyrennes routes & maps

g0551p , a good place to buy maps and tourist books, etc. is Stanfords, take a look at their site, www.stanfords.co.uk , you can browse thro the maps, buy on line and they deliver within 48 hours, enjoy your trip, if you have time drop in a little village on the Med, north of the Costa Brava and all the bloody tourists......village is called Llafranc, due east of Girona, magic!! :lick:
