w;;v I am in need of a luggage system for my, new to me, 1999 Redbird. Does anybody have any recommendations of which are the best to go for? Or more usefully is there any make or model to avoid?
A new system is out of my price range at the moment so if any one has something suitable to sell I would be more than interested.

Cheers

H.....give 1200Pete a shout at BlackBird Spares. He keeps used luggage in stock, or will hire it to you if you only need it for a single trip.

Bob Pinder gives good prices on new Givi stuff, I believe.

Just posted on Help forum re Kappa Luggage. :xm

?Bought Kappa luggage on eBay about 15 months ago [Bbird rack and 3 boxes]? got it all for ?250 from chap in Blackpool ? anyone here? Probably paid too much, but understand that 3 new Givi boxes and associated scaffolding is over ?500.

I understand that Givi/Kappa are one and the same firm and their factories in Italy are across the road from each other!! Can anyone confirm? :dunno:

Kappa system has Monolock/monokey system [i.e. same lock on all cases so 1 key], but mine has 3 different locks. Vendor explained that if you lost a key then ALL is not lost [so to speak]? However, as you are likely to have all 3 keys on same keyring, I fail to understand the logic! :h

Kappa Boxes

You can buy a set of locks for all three boxes, hence one key.
The Kappa panniers I bought have the same key, and the top box came with a different one.

It might be that your panniers are made up from two different sets.
(well it's only a idea)

luggage

it has to be Givi ! look at eBay, there is always something available for sensible money. also on this web-site you will find used kit. if you are doing serious touring on a regular basis don't buy painted luggage, it will soon look like shit. just buy good regular black givi boxes 3 x 36 + 1 x 45 will hold all you ever need, avoid bigger boxes for the sides - too wide, good luck!

bought a three box kappa system for the bird nineteen months ago and they are as good as gold. paid about 420 for them new in a deal at crescent suzuki's open day at verwood. should have cost about 650 with the coloured inserts but a bargain was had on the day. did 26k miles in that time with no trouble apart from when i got back from southern germany a couple of weeks ago the left pannier had worked loose. one of the three allen bolts had gone and the other two were loose (all three blanking plugs had gone) funny the right side was as tight as the day i put it together!!. if you ride solo consider the ventura system if you take a pillion then dont.

Today's Top Tip

Hi Folks
If you are going to bid (and hopefully win) on eBay please do your research first.
We have countless calls and emails from peeps who have bought stuff to find it obsolete, incomplete, or just down right knackered.
In some cases (no pun intended!) peeps pay more for used kit than new................................
Happy Bidding
