Evening all . .

My new BB should be arriving in the next week or so . I was a bit miffed to find the Haynes manual only goes upto '02 models ? Not that I'll need to be doing any major work or anything - I just like the Haynes manuals to avoid any 'schoolboy' errors on the simple stuff. I know the Honda booklet should be OK -ish, but I do like taking things to bits . .

So, the question is - how much was changed between the 02 bike and an 05 model, or will the manual still be good for basic stuff? ( not going to buy one mind you - my brother in law has a 99 bird and already got the Haynes . . )

Thanks

Stik

It hasn't changed since 02 so you're OK with the Haynes...tell a lie I think they might have tweaked the linked brake valve but you don't mess with that anyway

Hi Stik,

I have a 2003 bird, my understanding is that there were no changes apart from available colours from 2001 onwards.

Yep and they've done it again in the past couple of years, it's only a slight alteration in the apportioning valve

Thanks chaps . . .

So, what are the usual mods/ accessories on the 'bird ? I've been reading through a few threads - the spacer on the rear shock seems popular. Not sure I'm fussed about that yet ? I use my bike for commuting ( about 20 k a year ), so I'm more interested in an easy, comfy ride, ( with plenty of go of course ).

One area of minor concern when I was thinking about the BB was the extra weight over my VFR. I know its not a lot, but some evenings stuck in London traffic can get very very tiresome - the no "filtering cos another bikes in that non-moving gap already" times . . . Am I imagining someting that isn't really there? I've used Genmar risers in the past to ease this, and I've ordered some of 1200Pete's kit already. I guess it's just something to get used too . . . .

I've also ordered the baglux, hugger, extenda, R&G's, risers, SW Motech rack, and I already have a pro oiler . . . any other 'essentials' I should be thinking about for this bike ?

I've spotted the 4 - 2 - 1 pipes to single can stuff .... mmmmmmm

Took me a couple of thou miles to actually "fit" the bike - at first it seemed a bit heavy on the wrists in slow traffic but I've sussed out the riding posiiton now and find it fine. But it's true to say the quicker the comfier...thats my excuse anyway!

As far as weight itself goes no problem at all.

I believe you can actually fit the bars off the later VFR's to the bird. Don't know how like the VFR that actually makes it feel.
Anyone actually done that?

Jaws, I did actually think about putting film over the nose ( I read a recent thread on that ?) - high mileages / stone chips etc. but just out of interest . . what does a nose cowl sell for ?

Maybe baglux or someone should produce a cover - akin to the things you see on some american cars ( I think they call them 'bra's though ! ) mind you ... I imagine it would look :loo:
