When we arrived on Isle of Wight the place was awash with Harleys, presumably some sort of big meeting. Got chatting to a few of them and it was great to learn that it was an annual charitable event and a good deal of funds is normally raised. All power to them.
What I didn’t get is why many thought non Harleysters would be impressed with listening to stupid loud exhausts being blasted in otherwise tranquil surroundings and how much they would hack car drivers off by using about three times the number of parking bays that they actually needed in places like Godshill, a tourist trap with very limited parking.
Its easy to see why ‘bikers’ can pee off ‘non-bikers’, even when as ever it is the actions of the minority that create the tension.
As an aside, of great amusement to me was one of the self proclaimed ‘Hells Angels’ wittering on about how they were expressing their individuality. Couldn’t help noticing he was wearing the identical kit to most of his chums…leather waist coat with a Hells Angel motif on the back, t shirt promoting a heavy metal band, filthy (really filthy) denim jeans and boots. He also had a shaved head and ZZ Top beard…like many of his peers.
And he was having coffee and cake, just like me.
