They’ll need to be the size of a Range Rover to accommodate the power cells. Sounds to me like the answer to a question that no-one’s asking.

Have they teamed up with John Deer instead of just ripping them off

Had a go with a KTM freeride electric mx bike at E-scape near Chester last week, brilliant fun.
Bit un-nerving at first not having any engine noise, but the way the power is delivered is lovely.
Can't see battery bikes having much range, although they would make sense commuting into big cities.

You'll be trading your panzer in for an i3 then.....?
Can't believe how expensive the i3 is. Pig ugly as well.

Maybe an i8.......

Stunning.

Not sure how my 86 year old mum would get on with it though....

Battery technology will inevitably improve and every reason to believe electric bikes will become a viable alternative to petrol.

Remember how big mobile phone batteries were when mobiles first became available? Literally the size of a small briefcase and a great way of developing biceps.

I have a BMW 530e as a company car (which is a plug in hybrid for those not familiar). It really is uncanny how such a big hefty car goes on pure battery. The range however is pants on battery only. I guess as Andy says, battery tech can only get better.

I know it might sound contradictory after what I've just said about the car, but I'm just not convinced an electric bike is for me though.

Clueless in most things
It seems most hybrids cannot go beyond 50 miles on the electric but are done for tax dodges to assist petrol cars

A reasonable point but when when phone sizes settled down in the early 2000s, I’d get a week out of my Nokia. You’ll be lucky to get 30 hours out of the average smart phone now, unless you go for one of the larger ones. My iPhone 8 Plus goes two days but if I’m away on survey and really using it then I get a day.

I know several people with Tesla S cars. You have to pay stupid money to get a specced up one with a decent range on it. Even then, once you start using facilities like wipers, lights, aircon, stereo, etc. the range drops dramatically. I bought three brand new Panzers for less than the cost of a decent spec Tesla S; even if I’d paid full retail for each one, the Tesla would still cost more.

They have a long way to go before they become as mainstream as the nanny state would like. And don’t get me started on Elon Musk’s business ethics!

All fairish points ...but......stuff has to evolve. Today's mobile phones are a totally different beast to the 'early Nokias'. If you could use the battery technology of today in an old Nokia i waould be very, very surprised if the life didn't at least double.

The first petrol cars were rubbish compared to today's stuff (maybe 15mph and broke down every five minutes) and cost a relative fortune.

The first diesels were terrible; the diesels of today are, oh, er, they are terrible as well so bad example.:D

Fortunately some have the vision (including yout mate Musk) and are prepared to invest in r&d and dreams to keep pushing things forward.

50 miles range - if only. You can halve that for mine. But fair comment on the tax thing, that's precisely why I've got that model. The equivalent 520 diesel would be a small fortune more in benefit in kind.

Bth the bikes I have tried ( a Zero and one I can't name ) have had decent ranges.
One did 80 miles and it had not run out, the other we did 110 miles before we returning to base.
The power delivery is startling. Massive torque and continuous even power from bottom to top
