grmin gps mount

go to www.saeng.com and look at their mounts, you are correct about the lack of thread - take out the plug, stuff the mounting base through the hole into the void and tighten the bolt.

The bolt actualy passes through a rubber(?) sleeve that has a threaded insert at the bottom, as you tighten the bolt the rubber 'bellies out' and forms a seal and a vibration resistant fix, mine has now done in XS of 12k miles and still performs perfectly and vibration free, as well as being unobtrusive without the GPS!!
