Hi guys!

Having read with interest the threads recently about buying a Blackbird and heeding John's (Jaws) advice re: buying carbed over injection (and somewhat dictated to by my budget), yesterday I picked up my first Blackbird and my fourth CBR!

Having previously owned the CBR600F, CBR600RR and CBR 929 RRY FireBlade, I can now claim to have completed the set!

According to some, at 31 I'm too young to own a Blackbird, but if the ride home from Reading to St. Albans yesterday was anything to go by, I think I'm gonna enjoy it!

So here she is. A 1997 carbed model with just under 27k on the clock. Not bad for an 11 year old bike, let alone a Blackbird!

The bike's pretty much standard bar the double bubble screen (very effective) and a Scottoiler (not sure if the hugger was standard or not) and it looks like the front mudguard's been extended and a plastic shield has been installed to protect the downpipes. Plans involve a wingrack and some luggage, clear indicator lenses and maybe some heated grips.

Black and carb'd, well you can't do much better that that! Well done!!!
31 too young?? So is 26 or 24 when I had my first bird! and i think I heard of a 20 year old Bird owner as well! So no, the bird is definataley NOT an old mans bike, some just ride it as if it is!

But that take off ramp on the fronts gotta go!!!! Very effective i'm sure, but it looks hideous!3ck04 I have a DB screen on mine, but it's not quite so bulbous!

Good luck, the bird is AWESOME, you will NEVER regret it

Got any decent size pics of yours, mate? Which one have you got?

Cheers for the comments. Got insurance sorted (extra ?40 over my previous 'Blade) and tax is next on the list!

Which model Garmin is that (OK, seen the Zumo, but don't know if there's more than one model)? Any ideas if it can be plugged in to an Autocom? Also, is it waterproof?

Cheers!

Cheers, dude. I know the Horn, but never been in there, strangely. Probably because it was too much effort to walk back up the hill after a few!

Well, I've had the bike for a couple of weeks already! I did nearly 200 miles on my first tank of petrol, which was very impressive! Filled it up on the way home from work yesterday for the first time since I bought it.

I've done some riding on it now and it certainly feels heavier than my old 'Blade (I know, stating the obvious). I've found I really have to lean more to get it to turn and I've found myself drifting wide on a couple of roundabouts because it's not turning as quickly as I'm used to. I'm sure this is just a matter of getting used to the new weight, though.

I'm very happy with the comfort and the fact that it feels like a "man's" bike to me. I'm not a slight bloke and I've always dwarfed my previous sports bikes, but the Blackbird feels right to me. Just like me, it's big with lots of padding!

if you find it hard turning in try a 6mm spacer(placed on top of your rear suspension takes about 10minutes) from Jaws he sells them for about a fiver def worth a go

Been looking at a Zumo for a future purchase. Whats the difference between the 500 & the 550 ?

the 550 has a car mount and will say the street names the 500 doesent

500 works fine with an autocom don't buy the expensive autocom bluetooth adapter there are cheaper alternatives
