I read it somewhere once that there are engines that can run on water but those greedy twats at the oil majors keep buying all the patents so that they can continue holding the world to ransom with fossil fuels. True? I dunno but it would not surprise me in the least.
Steam engines run on water.

Still have to heat the water up somehow. Thermal pumps??

The idea of us all driving electric cars is not workable, we don't have enough power stations, also the batteries have a fineite life and we will end up with mountains of defunct batteries that we can't do anything with. Running cars on hydrogen at the moment isn't feasible as it is too exspexpen to produce but would provide a clean fuel.
It may not be workable today, but as the technology improves it may be workable in the future?

It is quite an interesting thought that the internal combustion engine has barely evolved in well over a hundred years - they may be more efficient now but the basic technology hasn't changed.

AB, Your comment about "Bunging kitchen waste into a car" is not as laughable as you may think! I design gas assets for a living and a lot of what I do is for Biomethane plants. Putting waste into an anaerobic digester to produce gas, then cleaning it up and exporting it to the gas network for you to use at home for cooking. We already have LPG infrastructure for fueling cars so it's not a stretch for this Biogas to be used.

The future is now!! (so they say)

Who do you think you are?

Brining an educated viewpoint onto this forum.....

Exactly. I can’t even pronounce half the words in that post.

Oh, and it’s “bringing” Andrew, not “brining”. You really should get your eyes tested.

My apologies, I will endeavor to post something about tits, diesel cars or DIY to offset my intrusion.
I should think so, too! However, I’d go easy on the DIY because you’ll hurt Andrew’s feelings if you’re too good at it.

I good few years ago I was at an energy conference and some farmers were using what I will call "bio digesters" to produce gas to produce energy. It seemed very feasible.
Don't hear much about it now.

Electricty Board were there putting every reason forward not to buy energy from small producers. Good few wind turbines around now. Much grant aided I think which distorts real effectiveness.

But things will develop.
