Important: French Motorail discontinued...
Rail Europe have sadly announced the complete closure of the French Motorail service from Calais to southern France, due to rising costs and poor exchange rates. It will not be running in 2010 and may never run again. Alternative motorail services are available to Narbonne from D?sseldorf (3 hours 45 minutes drive from Calais, 3 hours 20 minutes drive from Dunquerque, 2 hours 30 from Hook of Holland or Rotterdam) using
German Motorail with fares from just 149 euros for car & driver, or to Avignon or Fr?jus from s'Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands (3 hours from Calais, 2 hours 30 from Dunquerque, 1 hour 15 minutes from Hoek van Holland) with
Dutch Motorail. Both German & Dutch motorail operate high-quality motorail trains with proper sleeping-cars as well as couchettes, and in many cases a proper restaurant car. Regular users of French Motorail might be pleasantly surprised, in spite of the need to drive from Calais!
