Picos d'Europa

Hi Steve,

Glad you are interested to know what types are riding this trip. Its not an easy jaunt. The three listed have some experience, but not yet with the Picos d'Europa. Pd'E is a range of peaks reaching up to 2,800 metres just a short hop from Santander. So whilst we drink alot after the sun goes down, we cannot afford to have hangovers on the next morning.

The attached pic gives some idea, although this pic is from the
Austrian Alps (2350 metres).

Some ferry tickets are already booked, so no chance to change to "Germany" (I didn't quite get that remark - did I menchen der fater lande in my attachment?). There is one other guy asking miss'es permission, but not booked yet.

Are you a maybe? or a definite? What more do you want to know.

Barry

Like to know the people?

This is the French Pyrenees en-route to Andora in May this year. Just the right weather for biking. Andora was sweltering in the valley but ice either side of the road through the pass. The blue K1200RS you see was swopped for a Blackbird in June.

It's not Steve but someone you were suposed to meet at On yer Bike last Saturday. You changed the plans at the last minute and you did post this fact but no one checked late friday or Saturday morning. ........that's the gag about Germany :D

Anyway back to the trip - Do you expect any others might be joining you know have you had any other interest. It is probably difficult to tell on numbers but I supose a smaller group is easier to keep together. I would be interested in meeting and having a ride out with the others if poss just to make sure they are fast enough ;)
I think I have your mobile on another thread otherwise i will post you mine.

Laters
Nick.

Same again bartender......

About last Saturday: I feared the intention was not for a rideout, so I nominated the second venue idea very early in the week. You know how it is after waiting a week to fire up the BB... I did not relish the thought of just a car park chat. (did phone the message through as I turned the ignition key at 8.45 am however).

You missed a great ride back as we followed a lady VFR rider who could ride extremely well. A bum worth following too (^o^)

I repeat the same invitation this Saturday (woo...... thats tomorrow). Subject to weather, will start off from Thame Service at 10.30 am. Around 160 mile round trip rideout. If you are serious and have had your breakfast by 10.45 will scoop you up at On Yer Bike as we pass by.

By the way.... automatically cancelled in case of rain by the way.

The number is 0788 0808 045.
I did not receive yours last week.

Went to the P'dE a few years ago by car, brilliant holiday.

Stayed somewhere called La Rhonda I think. Also something de Barquera and Santillana del Mar. In the last place, the hotel was an old medievel merchants house with 4ft thick walls, had BBQ wild boar and drank myself silly. Also recall visiting one of those Spanish 'clubs with girls', but thats where my memory goes a bit hazy.........

Brilliant people, they will stop and give anyone a lift.

Are you planning to ride into Portugal from the Pico's?

Spain & France

Hari

No time to go into Portugal. Just Spain, Pyrenees, and Dordogne to Caen.

By the way, joiners list closes as of this Wednesday due to logistics. Nick is still sitting on the pot !

I'd love to join you but I don't think I'm ready for it this year. The distances you are planning are a little too heavy. I don't mind a couple of 300Mile days, but i'd like to potter around for the rest of the time.

I will see if I still have my guide book and maps though. They may still be around somewhere. If I find them I'll let you know.

From memory La Rhonda is the last stop on the Picos road, at the end of the second or third largest canyon in the world, (after the grand canyon and somewhere in Namibia). There is a cable car there going up to the top, great view, you are looking down on the clouds.

I'm considering doing Galicia in Northern Spain next year as I've been advised about an incredible route very popular with Spanish bikers, but if you decide to go to Spain again next year, let me know and I might well join you. I'm off to Malaga via Andorra, Barcelona and Valencia the week before you leave for the Picos. I did Portsmouth - Santander a few years back. We visited Torrelavega, Santillana del Mar (visited a prehistoric cave there) and then rode down to Madrid, taking in all the Paradors en route It was excellent, if not a little too hot in Madrid, hence all the elbow protectors (helmets on elbows).
