I saw one of them at a Biggin Hill air day 50+ years ago. By heck it’s noisy.

There's nothing special about that one, it's just aproaching the earth from its left side and you've turned the image
Eh no. This maneuver is a standard part of the Chinook Display Team's airshow routine. They do a zoom climb until the aircraft is pointing nose up and then at the top of the climb, flip to a nose down attitude and drop into a spiral descent.

It's quite spectacular to see such a big helicopter thrown around so hard.

I am one who has stood in awe watching that very display.
AND even though I'm not bad with Physics I still can't believe what my eyes were telling me was happening!
