Friends of ours Alan & Karen did the R66 about 3 years back & said it was the worst biking adventure ever (sorry mate) & would never recommend it, then did a ride through the Rocky Mountains & said they were going back to do more ASAP:bow:

mate of mine (unfortunatley passed away now ) did the states a few years back .. though he took his own bike..

shipped his bike (pan euorpean) over to the US with ACL (atlantic containers ltd) then flew over and picked it up and then spent 3 months touring taking in some of the rallies ie sturgess etc ...

biggest problem he had was getting insurance to ride his own bike in the US ....

apparently it was cheaper to ship his bike than it was for him to fly ...

I'm actually interested in shipping the Bird over for a month or so. Thought it might be easier than buying a bike out there and trying to get insurance etc...

Mate did the 66 part trip taking in San Fran a while ago and thought it was great apart from the number of Germans and the US types that couldn't ride (few offs). Followed by a truck with spare parts and bikes, plus they'll give pillions a lift if they don't want to be on the bike for a while.

I can ask him for details if you want?

This fella did a similar trip a couple of years ago... cost him ?600 quid to ship his bike and then ?500 quid to bring it back again.
