Finally Got My Dream Bike

A few years ago I used to commute to work on my little CBR125R and regularly filled up at the local ADSA, where I saw and fell in love with a Blackbird.

I sat my full test, racked up >15,000miles on a CBR600F, and finally graduated up to a Blackbird four days ago.

Whenever I told anyone my dream bike was a Blackbird I'd get the 'thats a very big bike for a little lass like you' treatment, but he's a lovely bike. Smaller and easier to push around than a ZZR1100, feels less twitchy and perilous than a Fireblade... I love it! I only wish I'd got one sooner!

Our first trip out together on sunny Sunday. Banbury loop with a stop off at Burton Dassets country park to watch the Avro Vulcan flyby display at the Heritage Motor Centre on the other side of the M40 (saved ?50 on buying a ticket).

Had a little picnic. The rocky, potholed dirt tracks and grass were no bother at all.

Wonderful bit of kit! I can even get him up on the centre stand all by myself. Couldn't be happier... except the big stock levers were hard work in all the slow moving traffic queuing up to leave the park. I think shorty levers will be my next purchase...

Welcome aboard. @tu*

I like the colour of your bike but can only think it has been resprayed as I can't say I've seen one like that. I like I a lot.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Lloydie; did you take your bird to the ADSA forecourt on Allard Way much in 2012?

Well done! I noticed on sunday that the edge of the nosecone fairing around the bottom of the screen is dark red. What gives it away as not being a natural blue? I presumed the nosecone had been replaced due to breakage and resprayed to match the rest of the bike... but do you think it's a full respray?

This one was declared new in 1998 by an independent importer and the odometer displays in kilometers (even though the speedometer and trip counter both display as mph/miles).

Yep, came back clear.

No worries. If you look on here and ebay then blackbirds blue is mostly one shade that is why it stood out but that does not always mean there is an issue, Sometimes minor panel damage has seen one or two different colour panels being the only ones available at the time so they have been used .

On a lot of bikes the nose cone, seat panel and front mudguards often become weak with age and when over tightened cause small cracks or suffer from impact damage.

Often then, enough panels are of a different colour that a respray may have been chosen to "jooosh" it up a bit. I myself have had respray's and even a Cat d before so body panel replacements doesn't always mean big issues.

Who ever has done it judging by the pictures seem have done it to a high standard and it does look quite tidy.

When you first get your bird it does leave you with a huge grin and it seems you'll fit in here just great as your comment on the other side of the M40 (saved ?50 on buying a ticket). reflects most of the tight arse's on here too. 8rfl@

True that and nothing nicer to see a female rider on a bike, increases road safety tremendously as I tend to slow down and tag behind the rider enjoying the views :-0)

she hasn't got the hang of that at all.

When did they start allowing wimmin to ride bikes? At least it is a girly coloured one

Dunno, she ^^ looks like a bloke taught her how to ride. Most wimmin I know who ride can more than handle themselves on a bike. We certainly need more women in here, whilst we have plenty of old tarts, they tend to be blokes

Welcome fellow blackbird rider, see if you can bring some decorum to this forum of grumpy old gits

Welcome

Cheers, I did have a bit of a flap! My previous ride was a Q-plated "1993" CBR600F which made the past two and a half years eventful and expensive! I'd very much like less of that kind of excitement from this blue bird, hence coming here. I spent more time checking the VIN number, forks, chain, tyres etc than I did checking the colour. 'Blue' like it says on the V5 was good enough for me!

I'd like more grin-factor and less catastrophic rear wheel bearing failures please! @tu*

I know one other lass who did have a bird up until earlier this year when she sold it due to financial difficulties. They don't seem to be a popular choice for the ladies for some reason. :dunno:

Still, blokes like to think it's a man's bike, but it does have two big fat kisses on the side of it. Seems pretty girly to me :whi5tl:

They even let us on the track these days, in pink helmets too! The world is going to hell in a handbasket anyway so I doubt it'll hurt :-0)

Some of the old farts on here sometimes do actually ride a bike so keep an eye out if any rides happen around your area. Always a good way to meet and put faces to miserable old gits on a keyboard
