FI light

Just got back from a ten day trip in the Pyrenees. Fantastic (more of that later).
Just a note about the FI light coming on. I experienced this one day, pulled up, turned engine off and on again and the light stayed out. Just before this happened the engine seemed to have a flat spot around 5000 rpm. I read on the forum that if the ecu is not secured properly this can lead to it bumping around causing all sorts of problems.
That eve I had a look and noticed a small sponge had dislodged from underneath the unit and the strap was loose. I put the sponge back, tightened the strap and put a couple of dirty tee shirts over the top to stop it bouncing around again until I got home.
Just to confirm, this totally cured the problem. No flat spots and no FI light coming on.
Hope this helps.

With all due respect what you probably have is a dirty / corroded connector which you have bodged with some old rags.8rfl@
Get some ACF50, put a tiny drop in every one of the connector holes in the plugs to the ECU, plug and unplug several times and then use a rubber tie down ( make one from an old inner tube if you aint got the original ) to keep it in place..... and that will be a proper job ..
The ECU should not have anything under it at all, including bits of foam or discarded clothing !

I would also have to ask you have completed the loom fix, as what you describe is a classic symptom !

Hi Jaws
You obviously know your stuff
I have done the loom fix prior to the trip. I will do what you advise tomorrow as I bought some acf50 from the jaws shop. It was a temporary fix anyway and I was going to investigate further as I thought it shouldn't have foam underneath and was probably done by previous owner. Plus I need my tee shirts back!@tu*
The tie down strap seems to be made of a cloth type material with a buckle, do you suggest replacing with a rubber one?
What about fixing with velcro? In your opinion Would this be a suitable alternative?
Thanks again for your valued input.
Much appreciated.
Ps: I'll put some info and pics of the trip up shortly, it was awesome and the blackbird was in its element! 100mph bends, ultra smooth Tarmac and no traffic8rfl@

The original strap was just a rubber band, hence my suggestion of a bit of old inner tube ( It is amazing how many rubber bands you can make from one inner tube LOL !!! )
Pyrenees has some awesome roads and I can well understand what you mean when you say the bike was in its element !!! @tu*
