Fi LIGHT ON

Hi have a 99-00 Blackbird alls been well till today, gone about 4 miles and the Fi light came on. Took it straiaght to dealer it was put on diagnostic machine told it was a Baro sensor gone. phoned other dealers they did not know what i was on about. It sometimes flashes or stays on permenant, bike goes okay rode it back. Reading about loom problems wondered if this could be the problem. Another problem supposed to be going with muppet and company to Austria trip June 18th to say im getting worried in case the bikes not going to be ready. No one can look at it till the end on june. Any ideas Thanks Brian

Yup, that's the loom fault just starting. If your bike is under 5 years old get it sorted by a Honda dealer as the loom is covered under their extended 5 year warranty. '
If it's over 5 years old now and you don't want to spend around ?500 for a new loom have a look at Loom Fix and fix it yourself for nowt, or a couple of pounds if you haven't got any heatshrink tubing in.

The flickering FI points to an earth fault and as this connector is full of them it usually is the one at fault. The terminals look clean but what about the bit where the wires go into it, other people have had a loose broken wire there.
You can first check every earth point you see and making sure you get the main one - e.g. under the left rear of the tank and the actual battery -ive terminal. You could also reset the ECU to make sure the fault isn't coming from there.
If you are competent with a soldering iron and it is an easy job I would hardwire the connector and see what happens. You are not losing anything by cutting off the connector, it has no function once the bike was first built and tested other than to cause a lot of problems for owners.

my birds FI light came on on the way to the RSID in may.this happened about 2-3 miles from the services on the M42 (hopwood i think),we were stopping there for fuel and food.stopped the bike to fill up,turned on the ignition, started no probs, and no FI light until yesterday...and it stayed on from crossgates to my home(about 65 miles).trouble is that the bike is running fine with no problems at the moment.mentioned this to blu(top mechanic  :} )and he thinks it could be that darned connector block which we sorted out last year.will have to have a look i suppose and see what occurs.

hi brian

when it was sorted last year, there were a few dodgy connector thingys on the block, and if i can remember rightly we hard wired it(well blu did anyway)as it's only use was in the production process,as i understand it.so if that's what we did, don't know why or what is causing it to happen now...faulty sensor or something maybe?
will let peeps know if it gets sorted.

Fi light warranty loom

Hi thanks for that, their seems no easy answer, dont look as though the holiday will go ahead. My bike was registered November 2000 is it worth asking for new loom. How do you do it?

mine was registered in 1999 so i ain't got a hope in hell on the waranty thing i should imagine.
i would thing a visit to your local honda dealers should be able to help on the waranty score :dunno: worth a phone call though i would think

Stan if I remember right Blu just re-soldered a couple of the wires where they went into the connector, looks like you're due the full hardwire now.

good looking AND modest
just stripped the block down to reveal, :dunno: a flamin CLEAN block no corrosion at all,!! so as a matter of course I went around every bloody earth lead I could find and tightened them all,
I've left the block "un taped" so I can hard wire it later this week

Hi Brian........

Are you the guy I met up at Haines in Cinderford one day when I was in a rush and had to dash off...? You were asking me about different bits I had on my (red) Bird...?

Whereabouts in the Dean are you - I'm only down the road in Monmouth
