Well I'm new here and you all have probably heard this one before but I'll post it anyways. When I first got my Bird I was coming home and got stuck on a traffic light that "didn't know I was there." THe gist of the deal was that the engine temp was showing over 200 degrees. This scared me! She survived this just fine, but I don't like any motor in my stables getting hot. I bought a service manual and decided to see if I could manually turn the fan on instead of waiting for the stupid computer to turn it on between 215 and 220. I found a fan relay under the seat. I wired in a simple toggle switch with a weather-proof boot on it. I placed the switch on an aluminum bracket that I built and drilled a hole in one end of it so it could be mounted on the handle bar pinch bolt over the triple tree. This has been a real handy place to put it and when I get into a traffic jam and start slowing down I switch the fan on and it takes the motor a lot longer to get up to 200 degrees now. If you start with the fan turned on at say 177 degrees instead of 220 you can pretty much stay on top of any heating problems. The way I wired the switch the computer can still turn the fan on even with the manual switch in the off position. Works for me.
