Have a butcher’s at this:

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavi...using-to-tell-police-why-she-was-out-11966813

Are we moving towards a police state or was the right action taken?

My view is that, prima facie, £650 is a it harsh but in the grand scheme of things, once a few more fuckwits who think they’re above the law get hit with similar force, then people might get the message and start doing as they’re told.

It’s a pity the law can’t be this strict and hit these dickheads who think it’s acceptable to eat cereal in the morning whilst driving on the motorway or are happy to text whilst driving with huge fines and a shit load of points. It’s what’s needed to get the message home.

Discuss.

Straight in with a big hit is the way to do it. If this was the way with all crime, instead of starting with a caution and slowly upping the punishment as offenders repeat crimes, then the prisons might not be so full.

Given the exceptional circumstances we're in at the moment, and we only know the official version, I think it's reasonable.

If she didn't have an essential reason to travel she could have owned up & probably got off with a warning. Instead, it appears she was being difficult ad with no regard to anyone else, so it's her own fault.

Even if she'd given a legitimate reason in court, I suspect that would have gone a long way.

I suspect that there may be more to this story than the press are letting on.

Still kickin' it!
She was a chancer. She knew it. Cops knew it. Magistrates knew it.

This former Supreme Court Justice was screaming "police state" the other day, weren't ya, chuck?

I'm no longer allowed to watch police type TV programmes as I shout too loudly at the pittance of a sentence handed down by the CPS. I'm all for pre PACE where the bad guys would fall down the steps at the back of the yard at the nic and the really bad guys would fall back up them again, what I term "proper justice", so making an example of these idiots is fair game in my book, just so long as there is suitable evidence.
From what has been reported she appears to have been fairly treated IMO.

Failing to obey a legal request/order by police as well.
I think she deserved it.

You need to watch Life on Mars on BBC iplayer...proper policing from 1971. Great stuff.

Yes it’s a shame they couldn’t make a ‘sweeney” style Series with Philip Glenister , but I guess the standards authority or whatever would ban it.

Arrest, court & fine I am ok with but I cant help thinking with this being one of the first the amount of fine could be disproportionate to the offense, the courts setting an example maybe ?

Also as above I very much doubt we are getting the full story here so I reserve the right to change my mind ;)

Yeah, good series.
We are spending our evenings going through Ashes to Ashes p, having first watched it when it was first shown - if anything I think it is even better than Life on Mars, not quite as much of the weird stuff and symbolism that maybe made the first lot a little over confusing -at times.

Glenister is brilliant. Mrs B is watching a period drama that he is in at the moment (Belgravia?) where he also displays his unique take on how to open doors by crashing through them.
