What use are pockets which are not waterproof. Why bother????

Ogri’s is still up for sale, give him a pm, you’d cut quite a dash in it I’m sure:rolleyes:.

If you check the small print on motorcycle waterproof gear, you'll find that they say their outer pockets aren't waterproof either. Only the likes of Rukka Gore-Tex have waterproof outer pockets.

My Alpinestars jacket has holes in the bottom to let water out

The inside pockets are waterproof though, as well as the map pocket on the lower back apparently.

My old Hein Gericke jacket was advertised as having waterproof outer pockets and they were for the first 18 months or so., but after re-proofing them with nikwax they were as waterproof as a sieve.

It's because the waterproof layer is under the outer fabric and pockets are an add on to the outer fabric.

The term waterproof can be misleading, you will find many items of clothing including bike gear can legally be sold as waterproof if it resists water ingress for a certain length of time so there are actually few bike jackets that are genuinely 100% waterproof during a 100 mile wet ride for example

I have a Richa which is.
The problem is water getting in at the neck.

All I have found at a reasonable price is Australian biker gear trousers, had those for years & have been totally dry even over 400+ miles a day of serious storms, I was going to buy the jacket to match but have since found out they are now made in asia & are nowhere near as good

My Richa leather is pretty good at keeping the water out even though it doesn't claim to be waterproof, the Richa textile jacket I had went in the bin as it leaked badly at the creases in the arms & wasn't comfortable when riding, I now have a Hein Gerike textile that's about as waterproof as a teabag but its warm & comfortable, I wear a Weise over jacket on top when needed, it packs down small when not, that was certainly the best £25 I have ever spent

I got Held trousers, very good.
First day out was torrential.

I got a Gerike trousers, good but has a leather patch on the arse which get sodden wet, doesn't seem to come through but is cold

Ironic as I would suggest that the average motorised bicyclist in Australia has little need for waterproof gear unless they go surfing.

That had occurred to me but its good stuff, or at least it was, I am still tempted by one of the jackets but from reports i have read the quality has gone way down since production was moved to Asia :(
