Bit of sad aircraft news from the last few days.

An American pilot by the name of "Snort" Snodgrass (no really) died in an unfortunate accident.

It's believed that the character of Maverick in Top Gun was actually based on him.

I'm attaching two photos.

The first is him while flying for the US Navy in an F14 - I understand that some "words of advice" were given. Not the first or last time he did this sort of thing.

The second is of the type he met his end in (not the actual aircraft).

I can't help thinking the world is a little sadder without the "characters" like him.

Yep, he was the real deal alright. RIP to the real Mav.

He was the USN's F14 display pilot for donkey's years.

I've since found out that the first photo is from a video (on Utube).

It was families day on the carrier so he did a fly past for them.
