This is quite an emotive subject amongst police bikers, as they well understand their worth and role in a modern force.

Cutting back on traffic departments, (and they have, just think of how far you can travel these days with never seeing a police car, let alone a traffic car) has been nothing short of sheer stupidity.

It granted a open road to drunk drivers, no insurance, drivers with no license, travelling criminals etc etc. What do Speed cameras catch, the honest driver.

Even if you are caught on a camera you don?t have to produce your insurance or your MOT, all they are bothered about is endorsing your license and collecting the fine. You could have been pissed out of your head when you drove through the camera - great eh?.

Traffic bikes not only have a deterrent value by their presence, but also help escort duties, emergency deliveries and much much more.

I am never ceased to be amazed by the wankers in power who make decision to scrap things without considering the bigger picture.

Hence most ACPO ranks are a BIG BUNCH OF BACK SLAPPING WANKERS :wank: and need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Boy do I feel better now.

In the light of the recent withdrawal of the STX1300 after the tragic death of a police officer on Merseyside, What bikes have Essex ordered for their new fleet?

Essex police have had the bikes now for a few months, unofficially of course. It was the first thing that the new police chief implimented upon his arrival. From what I can remember they are using the Pan euro.

Was that just Merseyside withdrawing the Pan or was that countrywide?

Bubba - they have only withdrawn the 1300's - the 1100's are still about in Liverpool.

From what I can remember BMW kicked up a stink about fairings. THe police wanted a modified fairing fitted and BMW said no, Honda said yes so they bought Pan Euros.

Thought that was the case, seems the Weave is inherient in all Pans though. The 1100 suffered from the same problem.

1100's never weaved mate - look at an 1100 frame some time - like the Forth Road Bridge. Mine has had a sidecar bolted to it for about 11 years now - put it back to solo over the summer and it handled fine - no twists - nothing. Mind you - it'll never be an R1!
